Use of Reusable Flap over a previously used envelope

This envelope is from a Punjab State Government Office. Instead of stating OIGS ( On India Govt. Service ) which is the standard super subscription even for state government offices this envelope , very interestingly , states OPGS ( On Punjab Government Service )

The sender 's address states Jamnanagar This is present day Yamunanagar ( Haryana ). Before 1947 present day Yamunanager was known as Abdullapur

18-10-1947 Service Envelope OHMG- East Punjab University

Type : Postal History -Stationery ( SERVICE )-- Stamps on Cover -Philately

Post Mark Dated 18-10-1947 ( Just 2 months After Independence )
Envelope States OHMG  ( On His Majesty 's Government )

Very Interesting fact is that the Letter is From East Punjab University , Simla. It tells the history of Panjab University immediately after Independence.

Indian Punjab ( East Punjab ) lost its Punjab University Lahore to Pakistan . University offices of East Punjab first shifted to Simla ( Registrar's offices to SOLAN ). The name of the demerged Punjab University was first East Punjab University . Later it became PANJAB University and found its permanent and current home at the newly built Chandigarh .

( The difference in Spelling of PANJAB was kept to differentiate Indian University from the parent University at Lahore which had the spelling PUNJAB University

Rare Indian ( Service ) Postal Envelope of USA War Department

Type -Postal History ( Stationery )( Indian - Very Rare )- Stamps on Cover-- Philately

USA ( World War II Postal History - Stationery )

But on OIGS ( On India Govt. Service )

In 1947 Free Government of India , in the initial years , ( say up to 1955 ) worked in a NEW independent set up but with the OLD Stock of Imperial British Postal Stationery .

Result Some very interesting incidents of confusion ( of course , only from Philately Point of View )

This very interesting Service envelope , immediately after independence is a World War II American Government surplus postal stationery gifted to the newly independent Government of India.

This envelope , originally printed by War Department ( USA ) for " official use " carries a very strict War Time Warning ( please click to ENLARGE and again + at top right corner )

" PENALTY FOR PRIVATE USE TO AVOID PAYMENT OF POSTAGE $ 300 "

Philately 's Unique Specimen ( probably  the only one now available )  of hybrid USA and Indian Postal Stationery
